Official DDC Projects

Official List

A limited number of student projects will be chosen as official "DDC Projects." These projects will have a close relationship with DDC, and will have priority access to DDC services (hardware, software, consulting, grant funds, etc.). We will have regular meetings during which DDC Project teams will give reports, software demos, etc., and get feedback from the rest of the community. In exchange for priority access to DDC services DDC Project teams will agree to be good contributing members of the DDC community by doing such things as giving regular project presentations and attending the presentations of others. DDC Project teams are also invited to participate in DDC operations and decision making (via the Student Advisory Board)---we want you to help us make DDC fit the needs of students.

As mentioned above, the DDC Project policies and support services will take a semester or two to formulate. We will develop methods for students submitting proposals for projects that they would like to be DDC Projects. The DDC Student Advisory Board will have a strong role in determining which projects are accepted as DDC Projects.

Also see the page on Drop-in consulting services for information on these services and who has access to them.

The Interdisciplinary Project Team Model

Designing and building quality software or new-media applications requires many diverse talents. These skill areas include:

  • Software engineering and programming

  • Visual/graphic arts

  • Subject matter expertise

  • Psychology; Instructional Design; Human-Computer Interaction

  • Project management

  • Business/Marketing

  • Testing/Evaluation

  • Knowledge engineering

  • The Digital Design Center is committed to supporting interdisciplinary project teams where students with existing skills in technical, artistic, and humanities areas can learn from each other. (See the DDC Motivating Philosophy .) Typical student project teams will be small, include individuals that overlap with several of these skill areas, and have some skill areas not represented. DDC will have relationships with local organizations with strengths in each of the skill areas to provide mentoring and apprenticeship opportunities
